Guide For Caring Diamonds
Diamond Care Guide Preserving the Brilliance
Diamond jewellery is made to last a lifetime, often carrying deep emotional meaning. While diamonds are the hardest natural material, everyday wear, dust, and oils can reduce their sparkle over time. At Carave Paris, we believe caring for your diamonds is just as important as choosing them.
1. Touch Less, Shine More
Natural oils from your skin can transfer to the diamond’s surface, forming a film that dulls its brilliance.
- Minimize Handling Avoid touching the center stone unnecessarily.
- Beauty Routine First Always remove your jewellery before applying lotions, perfumes, or hair products.
2. Regular Cleaning at Home
Diamonds shine because of light reflection. Dirt blocks this light. Follow this safe method once every two weeks
- Soak Use warm water with a few drops of mild liquid soap.
- Brush Gently clean with a soft bristled toothbrush, focusing on the front and back of the stone.
- Dry Pat dry with a soft, lint free cloth.
- Safety Tip Always block the sink drain before you start cleaning!
3. Handle with Care
While the diamond is tough, the metal (Gold/Platinum) holding it is not.
- Use only soft brushes; never use toothpaste or harsh chemicals.
- If your jewellery catches on fabric, ease it out gently to avoid bending the prongs.
4. When to Remove Your Jewellery
Avoid wearing diamonds during activities that could expose them to chemicals or physical impact
- Swimming Chlorine can damage the metal, and saltwater can make your fingers shrink, causing rings to slip off.
- Household Chores Bleach and cleaners are harmful to precious metals.
- Physical Activity Gym workouts, gardening, or heavy lifting can loosen settings.
5. Proper Storage
Diamonds can scratch other diamonds and damage softer gemstones or metals.
- Store each piece in individual fabric lined compartments.
- Alternatively, wrap each item in a soft cloth or acid free tissue paper.
6. Periodic Professional Inspections
We recommend checking your jewellery's setting regularly
- Inspect the prongs the metal claws to ensure they aren't bent or worn down.
- If you hear a clicking sound or feel the stone moving, contact a professional jeweller immediately.
